Bledsoe County
Bledsoe County was formed in 1807 from land that was formerly Indian Land, as well as land carved from Roane County. The county was named for Anthony Bledsoe, a soldier in the Revolutionary War and was an early settler of Sumner County. He was killed in an Indian attack at Bledsoe's Station.
Strategically located to major metropolitan areas, Bledsoe County can still offer the relaxed country atmosphere. Three major interstates (I-40, I-75, and I-24) are less than an hour away. A north and south route to I-40 and I-24 is provided by U.S. 127, while State Route 30 connects the county to I-75. Bledsoe rests in the middle of the Nashville - Knoxville - Chattanooga triangle. The county is also within three hours of two major southern airport hubs: Atlanta and Nashville.
The county's strategic location makes it excellent for just-in-time shipping. Bledsoe is located within eight hours of two-thirds of the nation's industrial markets.
With an economically efficient work force, Bledsoe is poised for industry desiring to join in the new southern industrial expansion.
After the war of 1812, 30 acres of land was purchased for the town of Pikeville. Pikeville was incorporated as a town in 1830. After 1850, territory from Bledsoe County was taken to form parts of Cumberland and Sequatchie counties.
Pikeville is the only incorporated city and has a mayor-alderman form of government.
